This is a huge departure for me.
This is the sort of post Emma would usually write – I’m a lot better on the technical stuff; she does the mind stuff! – but it’s something I felt I really had to write. Plus Emma’s been really busy with White Cat Coaching (check it out, it’s great!) so it is really up to me to write this.
Yesterday I went to #OpenSpace14 – a free event hosted by the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. There were three amazing keynote speakers: Ken Cato; Dr. Cathy Foley and Todd Sampson. They were excellent and I got a lot out of all of their presentations.
The biggest takeaway I got though was “you don’t need to be brave all the time; you just need to be brave for long enough to take 1 step.”
It sounds so easy doesn’t it? And yet how many of us feel able to do that? I know I don’t (or didn’t) – there’s so many things I haven’t done recently due to fear. And yes, I’ve tried lots of techniques to increase my emotional courage but nothing seems to have worked.
This message from the panellists though is something I can do – after all, I’m not aiming to be brave all the time; just brave for long enough to take one step. And if I don’t take the second step for a while after that, well that’s ok. I’m still one step further along than I was.
How about you? Want to join me in my one step crusade?
