This is when we talk about you. And not just who you are (who we already know is amazing), but who you need to be that is going to be the most appealing for your avatar.
People are going to engage with you not just because you’re going to give them great service, but also because you are interesting, and spookily EXACTLY WHO THEY WERE LOOKING FOR.
So, now it’s time to create a character that will instil a sense of relationship with you and your ideal client. You want them to feel like they know you already. You need to be easily recognisable. You need to stand for something (aren’t you glad you worked on your big “why”?), represent a belief, and have a story that sparks a sense of familiarity.
Let’s think about you for a second
We tend to focus so much on what we need to DO without thinking about who we need to BE.
Just like coming up with your big “why”, thinking about who you need to be is critical. Now you know your ideal client’s wants and desires, who do you need to be to ensure they are attracted to you, engage with you, and ultimately become a paying customer? This is a pretty cool thing to do, as it brings you closer to your ideal client and puts you in a better position to attract them and give them what they want and need.
This does not mean changing who you are. It simply means finding a part of you that you need to bring to the fore. We all have a number of Archetypes in us, some more prominent than others.
Archetype, translated is “Arche” meaning first or best, and “type” meaning form or symbol. Not to be confused with Stereotypes!
Who are you?
We have every Archetype in us, some more prominent than others. Which Archetype do you need to bring in order to be there for your ideal client? Some best known archetypes are:
- The Adventurer: wide eyed enthusiasm and innocence
- The Magician: Fantasy element
- The Oracle: Love, mystery, things are hidden. Things reveal slowly.
- The Creator: Nurturing, loving, always creating new things
- The Emperor: The “boss”. Finds it easy to take control. Does detail well.
- The Sage: Understanding and getting knowledge for knowledge sake. Wants to learn more.
- The Lovers: Love of another is very important, believes in romance.
- The Knight: Sometimes called the warrior. Someone on a quest. A journey with specific learnings in mind, to champion causes.
Which of these archetypes resonate with you? Go on and pick two. There is not right or wrong with this. Pick the two that jump out at you as being you. How are they working for you? Are there any clashes between the two?
Who do you need to be?
Now, given your ideal client, your avatar, who do you need to be for them? What other archetype do you need to bring to the fore? Who is someone you can model who has this archetype? Do a check. You will know when you are attracting your ideal client, and they are coming to you because you are just what they were looking for. And the very cool thing about this, is that it’s already in you now.
